Hooked on Realiti

realitibillboard1ek0.jpg

I’m hooked. What can I say? In a Lost, Desperate Housewives kind of way, local drama Realiti is top on my list of recommended let’s-vege-in-front-of-TV-on-Sunday programs. It’s brilliantly shot, well-acted and has a pretty interesting storyline (wanna know who writes for Realiti? It’s Dzof (for a couple of episodes) and also Ng Ping Ho (who happens to also be the Director of the series.

What’s Realiti about? To cut a long story short, Realiti is a story about a reality TV show – The Malaysian Star. Much like Malaysian Idol. And One in A Million. But life’s never that straight forward is it? Wanna read a real sypnosis? Why don’t you read the pilot, if you’ve missed it –> click here. (here you go Dzof, more net traffic for ya!)

So why do I like Realiti? I like the characters. Kudos to the casting director because I think it’s spot on. Azizan as Amir, the cool Malay kampung rocker. Ashraf as American-bred R&B influenced Burn, Melissa as the sexy Baby, Alvin – the very poofy Nickson (he is SO right for this role, I laugh each time I see him on screen!), Chelsia – the pretty girl and Burn’s love interest with a drug problem. Radhi Khalid as Mac the mentor is brilliant. And I love the dialogue. Very real, in a everyday Malaysian sort of way. Like Rabun. Like Sepet. Like Gubra. There’s English, Malay, Hokkien, the Malaysian suffixes – “la“, the works. Sweet.

I missed the pilot and a couple of early episodes, but fret not, I’ve got them bookmarked on YouTube. For those who missed any episodes, head on to YouTube and do a search. Or point your browser here –> Dzof.org: Realiti

To tell you the truth, it’s getting better as the characters develop further. I can’t wait till Sunday again. Hope they also release a DVD collection of the entire series. Definitely a worthy addition to my DVD collection.

Realiti. 10pm Sundays on 8TV, starring Azizan Nin, Ashraf Sinclair, Melissa Maureen, Alvin Wong, Chelsia Ng, Radhi Khalid. With Nazrudin Rahman, Juliana Ibrahim, Lydia Ibtisam, Nell Ng, Kee Thuan Chye, Cheyenne Stutzriem, Aishah Sinclair. Special appearances by Fat Fabes, Carmen Soo and Fly Guy. What would you do to become a star?

Voilà! A Vis-à-vis Introduction to a Vendetta!

“Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is it vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished, as the once vital voice of the verisimilitude now venerates what they once vilified. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose vis-à-vis an introduction, and so it is my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.”

Watch V for Vendetta! Watch it, watch it, watch it!

V for Vendetta

Remember, remember
The Fifth of November
The gunpowder treason and plot
I know of no reason why the gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot

Set sometime in the future, V for Vendetta tells a story of totalitarian Britain. Based on the Vertigo/DC Comic book of the same name co-written by reknowned writer Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd, V for Vendetta boasts of screenplay by the people who brought you the fantastic Matrix trilogy – the Wachowski brothers.

You can find the sypnosis and detailed info including video and the ‘making-off’ footage on the official Warner Bros site.

I just caught it at GSC Mid Valley. All I can say is that it is worthy of ‘Movie of The Year’ and it has just displaced The Matrix as my favourite movie of all time. It’s brilliant, I tell you. Under-rated Descent surprised and intrigued me this year, but V for Vendetta starring Hugo ‘Agent Smith’ Weaving and a very yummilicious Natalie Portman (she looks stunning bald!) was downright engaging and awe-inspiring. Hugo and Natalie were brilliant, along with the star-studded cast. Top class story-telling and the dialogue was intelligent, inspiring and powerful.

I rate this a triple V – Vivacious, Vociferous, Valorous!

Please go watch it. Please do.

Superman, Returns!

The man who wears his red undies outside is back. And I am pissing in my pants in excitement for his arrival. Not that I have any homosexual tendencies.

Now where’s my supersuit?

Desperately Lost

Having not quite recovered from the suspenseful first season of TV’s ‘Lost‘, I’ve jumped on another bandwagon. Strangely enough, I don’t own a TV, and thus, don’t watch the idiot box much. Ah… but the wonders of friendship. Kudos to Alvin and Wei for their generous .avi files of the entire season of “Lost: Season 1″, and recently ‘Desperate Housewives‘ – Season 1.

It’s amazing how a cast of beautiful married women can have such affect on a guy. Sheesh. Let me tell you something. I do not watch soaps. Not since ‘Dallas’ and ‘Dynasty’.

Picture borrowed from TV.com

Well, hey-ho. Enter ‘Desperate Housewives’. A dark comedy. A primetime soap. Evening entertainment with a twist. Call it what you want. It’s a contemporary look at living “happy ever after”, set in beautiful and serene Wisteria Lane – where the secret lives of housewives aren’t always what they seem.

It’s almost a marriage-life version of ‘Sex in the City’.

The distinct characters, the twisty, mysterious and mostly funny plot, is engaging and entertaining. I’ve never been this addicted since… well, ‘Lost’. I find myself watching 5-6 episodes a night, almost equal to when I was chasing ‘Lost’ answers, and can’t seem to get enough of it. Got a stiffy this morning (and by that, I mean a stiff neck, you naughty fellas!), most probably caused by lack of sleep!

I enjoy the beautiful and klutzy Susan Mayer (played by yummy Teri Hatcher), the ADD-drug addict and mother of 4 monster kids, Lynette (Felicity Huffman), the ‘perfect’ and plastic Bree Van De Kamp (Marcia Cross), the sexy gardener-shagging Gabrielle Solis (Eva Longoria) and the slutty Edie Britt (Nicollette Sheridan).

I am hooked. I tell ya. Well, enough of talk. Back to Wisteria Lane, folks.

“Desperate Housewives” stars Teri Hatcher as Susan Mayer, Felicity Huffman as Lynette Scavo, Marcia Cross as Bree Van De Kamp, Eva Longoria as Gabrielle Solis, Nicollette Sheridan as Edie Britt, Alfre Woodard as Betty Applewhite, Brenda Strong as Mary Alice Young, James Denton as Mike Delfino, Doug Savant as Tom Scavo, Ricardo Antonio Chavira as Carlos Solis, Mark Moses as Paul Young, Richard Burgi as Karl Mayer, Roger Bart as George Williams, Cody Kasch as Zach Young, Andrea Bowen as Jenna Mayer, Shawn Pyfrom as Andrew Van De Kamp, Joy Lauren as Danielle Van De Kamp and Mehcad Brooks as Matthew Applewhite and Jesse Metcalfe as John.

Watch me! My first acting experience!

I’ve finally done it. Acted in my first Hollywood film. Watch it here:
Wedding Crashers

Tell me what you think!

Resistance is Useless!

If you are ever in need of some hard laughter, or preversely require to be totally confused, baffled and zoned-out, go watch The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. It’s an impossible, improbable, wacky adventure. I came out of the cinema wondering if that was really a movie. And also wondered if the producer/writer/director was high on crack when he/she decided to produce the film.

In a very Brit way, the humour borders on witty to outright slapstick. You WILL laugh, I promise you, but out of your own interpretation. In some scenes I went “What the fuck?” And in others, rolled on the floor laughing. Several times.

I can’t say I recommend you to watch it. And I can’t say I recommend you not to. It’s what I call a WWWF. Weird Wacky WatchFest.

I love Marvin the manic depressant robot. And the Improbability button is the best. MUAHHAHAHAH. “We have normality!”

My favourite bit is definitely when Ford and Arthur transformed into sofas. Damn that was good. “Ford, I think I am a sofa!”

MUAHHAHAHAHA. Sorry. This isn’t quite a movie review. Nor is it a recommendation of any sorts. In fact, I have no idea why I am writing about this.

MUAHAHHAHAHA.

I need normality!

Sepet : The Malaysian Movie

“Sepet” is a very misleading title for a movie. Why? Because people think it’s a Malay movie and avoid it at all costs. Movies like “Gerak Khas: The Movie” does not help, not one bit. This was apparent when I had to explain to my colleagues that it is a Malaysian movie using everyday languages like English, Malay and Chinese. Malaysians being naturally multi-lingual can really relate to the movie, because the dialogue is very real. I think it’s quite brave of Yasmin to actually do this.

After catching “Sepet” last week, I am in awe and without sounding like a Yasmin groupie, am grateful to Kak Yas for releasing such a wonderful, funny and tear-jerking tale. The movie isn’t perfect but the acting, especially by the leads, was totally convincing. It was like watching a Disney movie. A movie you can bring your whole family to.

The scene where Jason’s mom consoled him, I cried. This means something, bloody hell. I was moved. Not many movies can make me shed a tear or two. Hell, this is a local movie goddammit! And in between that, I was falling off my chair laughing. I won’t go in to the whole sypnosis thing, there are other sites which have this. But I love the dialogue. Very real, thus believable and easy to relate to.

The mention of “MILF” was somewhat amusing and unexpected. Nice touch. Heheh. Censors didn’t catch that did they? :)

“Sepet” deserves the accolades and commendations it has received. Good effort. For those who haven’t watched it, what the hell are you waiting for? Nothing this good has come to our shores from our shores in yonks. Be thankful.

By the way, fellow blogger,
PROZAK NATION 2005 has stumbled upon an original VCD copy of “Sepet”. Go buy it if you so wish. And keep it in a safe place, because you are bound to pick it up to watch when you feel warm, fuzzy and wanting to be entertained.

For me, I’m waiting for the Director’s Cut DVD version, if ever it’s released. The 8 scenes that got cut? I want to see them!

You can infect me with the T-Virus anytime, Milla!

“…there was an accident. Everybody died. Trouble was, they didn’t stay dead.”

Resident Evil : Apocalypse. They had to make a sequel. Why the hell not? An acceptable storyline, backed by a following of gamers from the award-winning game of the same name, starring the lovely Milla Jonovich (hot! hot! hot!) and kick-ass special effects. If you don’t already know by now, or have not watched the first installment (shame on you), the story continues from Alice’s capture by her ex-employers – Umbrella Corp.

Without revealing too much, Raccoon City is infected all over again. The biogenetically experiment Alice comes back stronger and more lethal than ever before, ridding the city of infected undead. It’s all carnage, gore and firepower.

Watch the fight scenes, they are really superb I have to say. And Milla, oh Milla is as stunning as she is athletic, natural and sexy! She meets her match as she duels another biogenetic killer machine – Nemesis, a HellBoy lookalike, only even uglier!

Have a lookout for Jill Valentine as well, another no-holds-barred, gun-totting kick-ass female character ala Alias and Dark Angel, though no-one has yet come close to top lass Ripley @ Sigourney Weaver in Aliens.

My favourite bit of the movie was actually the opening sequence. Very engaging. Of course more scenes of Milla in little or no clothes is accepted (and there are a few, thankfully). Enjoyed the action sequences and special effects, amidst the rather poor dialogue and at times bad acting. (who the fuck hell cares when there’s Milla strutting her stuff???).

All in all, a rather enjoyable flick. Nice soundtrack, much like the first.
